After running the first-team offense and defense against the Dolphins in a pair of joint practices this week, Bucs coach Bruce Arians said his starters might get slightly more playing time in Friday’s preseason game than they did in the opener last week in Pittsburgh.

That would make this game more about rating the reserves and seeing where bubble players stand. Here are five things to watch for Friday.

As the Tampa Bay Buccaneers prepare to face the Miami Dolphins tomorrow night, here are three players to keep an eye on as the summer progresses.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been holding a joint practice with the Miami Dolphins this week as the two are set to square off tomorrow night. This is the second preseason game for the Buccaneers after falling short against the Pittsburgh Steelers last week.

The preseason remains a time for the rookies on the roster to adjust to NFL game speed and for bottom of the roster guys to make a name for themselves. Guys like Mazzi Wilkins and Spencer Schnell stood out a week ago, and backup tight end Tanner Hudson also put on a show.

While these games can be rather boring to watch on television due to the lack of participation from the starters, these games hold significant implications for those players fighting to make the final 53-man roster. After the first drive of the game, the field is then dominated by the relatively unheard of players.

It will be doubtful to see the starters play for a long time, so Ndamukong Suh, Jameis Winston, Mike Evans, and others will probably only play one series if at all. The first preseason game had many standouts other than just Wilkins and Schnell, and now moving into week two of the preseason, who are some names to keep an eye on?

The headlines?

Run game: Improved.

Cornerbacks: Too generous.

Pass rush: Still quiet.

Pass protection: Darn good.

Kenny Stills: Still protesting.

David Fales: Solid.

Stadium: Half full.

Mike Hull: Out for a while.

Yes, there were plenty of subplots at Hard Rock Thursday.

But they were just that: Subplots.

The only story that mattered on a soupy night here was the return of 17.

Tannehill was back.

He was healthy.

And he looked good.

The numbers — 4 of 6, 32 yards — were nothing special.

But his night felt special nonetheless.

It was the culmination of 20 months of blood, sweat, and yes, tears.

The last time Tannehill wore a Dolphins uniform for a game, his eyes were red. He used a towel to wipe the emotions away. Teammates came to console him.

The New York Giants play for dignity right now, while their opponent, the Chicago Bears, has visions of the NFL playoffs.  In essence, this is a must-win for the Bears, who cannot look past the lowly New York Giants. Next week’s clash against the Los Angeles Rams will be a tempting distraction, however, so the Bears must not let the G-Men hang around in what will likely be rainy conditions at the Meadowlands.

Two of the final three games for the Monsters of the Midway come against division rivals, the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings. Those won’t be easy games, so Chicago has to take advantage of this favorable match-up.  Notching two straight wins after their bye week, the Giants ripped up sore wounds through dropping another winnable game to the Philadelphia Eagles. With the NFC East division up for grabs, the G-Men blew a prime chance to become a factor in the race, and they regressed back to also-ran status.  On Sunday, the New York Giants will likely face Chicago back-up quarterback Chase Daniel on Sunday, as starting signal-caller Mitchell Trubisky nurses a sore throwing shoulder.

Trubisky could still function as the No. 2, since he was not ruled out of the game. Daniel did lead the Bears to a 23-16 win over the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving. More from GMEN HQ      Saquon Barkley not into idea of ‘sticking to sports’

Conrad  Defensively, the New York Giants will have to contend with linebacker Khalil Mack, the most prolific offensive destroyer currently in the NFL.

Unable to come to terms with the Oakland Raiders on a contract extension, Mack was dealt to the Bears just prior to the beginning of the NFL season.  Mack is on pace for double-digit sacks for the fourth straight season, and upon arrival, elevated the Bears defense from good to great.

The Bears, remember, are fifth in the league in scoring right now. When the quarterback has time, and is kept clean, points typically follow.

While the Giants’ line was supposed to be much improved after signing a guy like Nate Solder, they have gone the opposite direction.  Meanwhile, the Bears have seen fantastic seasons out of guys like Bobby Massie and Charles Leno on the outside. Prior to this season,

Massie was looked at as the weakest part of the line. Believe it or not, he’s graded well overall on the season and has only allowed one sack.  Leno, meanwhile, grades out as the best lineman on the Bears according to our friends at PFF.

People can talk about all of the big names heading into this game, whether it be the skill players of the Giants or guys like Khalil Mack and Tarik Cohen of the Bears. But, where the stark difference between these teams will be noticed more so than any area, is the offensive lines.
